Funded by the city of Miami and local businesses, the Virginia Key North Point MTB trail can be enjoyed by both novice and advanced riders. It offers 15 different routes, with the Wild Thing trail being a popular ride if you enjoy punchy climbs and navigating old fallen stumps. Detailed Trail Description

Virginia Key North Point mountain bike trail is located on Key Biscayne in Miami and offers over 6 miles of cross-country rides. It provides trails dotted with stunts and obstacles for added excitement while giving you views of the South Florida coastal line. The trail includes a number of routes designed for different skill levels while offering riders an elevation of +250/-241 ft.

Additional Trail Features

Only minutes away from downtown Miami, mountain bikers can access this trail at Arthur Lamb Jr Road. The cross-country trails include wood features, rock gardens for trying out your biking skills and a few skinnies, so look out for some challenges along the way. The sandy paths make traversing them fun and exciting at the same time.

An added bonus is the option to take a dip in the ocean as the trail is lined by South Florida beaches. The following are available for riders and other users of the trail:

  • Bike rentals in the parking lot;
  • Fat bike grooming;
  • Parking.

Only service dogs are permitted on trails and they must remain on a leash at all times. The Virginia Key Bicycle Club, which has over 450 members, manages the trail, keeping the different routes in good condition at all times.

Sights of Interest, Landscape, Views

Virginia Key North Point doesn’t only offer exciting trails for bikers but it has some historical interest too. The surrounding beaches were once the location for civil rights protests against segregation. This island was host to a group of brave African American swimmers who swam in the ocean during a time when they were banned from such activities.

The island offers mountain bikers views of beach dunes, wetlands, and mangroves while giving them the opportunity to navigate natural vegetation alongside the coastal shores. Other activities in the vicinity of the biking trail include:

Recommendations/Precautions

The biking trail can accommodate riders of all levels and sticking to the routes that suit your skill is recommended to avoid problems. The trails are well-maintained even during wet conditions. There’s no entry fee to use the bike trails but you do pay parking fees at $8 on weekdays and $6 on weekends and public holidays.

Different opening and closing times for bicycles apply depending on the seasons. Bikers can ride the trails from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm from April to October and 6.00 am to 6.00 pm from November to March. No overnight parking is permitted.
