Welcome to the Rib Cage, the talk of the town at Phil’s World trail network in Cortez, Colorado. This trail, fit for intermediate riders, lets you bypass the more challenging terrain of "Stinking Springs Trail," offering a blend of thrill and accessibility.
Phil's World has grown to accommodate various skill levels, but this loop serves intermediate riders like a custom-fitted glove. While devoid of technical hitches that often deter casual bikers, this route provides enough intrigue to keep enthusiasts engaged.
The hallmark of this loop is the Rib Cage, an experience that’s nothing short of exhilarating. The signage at Phil's World is reliable, making navigation a breeze even for newcomers. Upon arriving at the Rib Cage, be prepared for a roller-coaster-like thrill. And if that wasn't enough, the trail offers an option to loop back for a Rib Cage encore.
The starting point is conveniently located off of Hwy 160W, sandwiched between a shooting range and the Fairgrounds. Though slightly concealed, the entry is next to the shooting range and directly opposite the Fairgrounds. Expect about a 45-minute drive from Durango and a quick 5-minute commute from Cortez, ending in an expanded parking area.
This loop in Phil’s World gets it right for intermediate riders: not too easy, yet not overly demanding. The Rib Cage section provides just the kind of fun one yearns for in a mountain biking experience. The loop permits multiple runs through the Rib Cage, making it near impossible to ride just once. This is the epitome of a ride that’s "just right" for a wholesome workout and unabridged fun.
