Tucked away in Boise, Idaho, lies an under-the-radar trail that caters to both newcomers and seasoned bikers seeking a leisurely ride with occasional thrills. Officially nameless, but well worth the time, this route offers a little bit of everything: ridges, valleys, mild climbs, and a touch of technical terrain.
The journey begins with a surge of adrenaline, courtesy of an immediate steep hill. The uphill thrust takes you to a ridge, where the trail morphs into a gentle wind along the elevated landscape. Your wheels will then descend, tracing the back of the ridge, and commence a tranquil voyage back up the valley.
About a couple of miles in, the trail features a subtle climb, surprisingly mild despite its imposing appearance from the valley floor. Kudos to the trail builders for carving this section out of the hillside while maintaining a gentle gradient. The path then continues its meandering route along the hillside, setting the stage for the subsequent rocky encounter.
Upon entering a rocky canyon, a moderate technical challenge awaits. The trail has a few rocky sections, which add a pinch of spice to the overall flowy nature of the route. It's here that you'll encounter a junction with the Sweet Connies trail, before completing the ride up to Bogus Basin Rd.
The trailhead is conveniently located across Cartwright Rd from the upper Polecat Gulch parking area.
All said and done, this Boise trail provides a well-rounded biking experience suitable for all skill levels. With approximately 11.3 miles and 1650 feet of climb, it's a ride that can easily be a part of a more extensive loop or enjoyed as a standalone. Either way, prepare for a mix of mild climbs, flowing paths, and occasional rocky challenges. It's an unmissable gem in Boise's treasure trove of trails.
