Hot Springs, Arkansas, just added another gem to its cycling terrain—the Northwoods Waterworks Trail. Constructed in partnership with the Walton Family Foundation and Visit Hot Springs, this recently developed trail system offers a plethora of features for riders of all skill levels. A product of a well-thought-out design, the trail caters to both adrenaline junkies and riders seeking a tranquil escape.Trail Details:
To hit the trail, head north on Central Avenue from downtown Hot Springs. Make a left on Whittington Ave and an immediate right onto Cedar St. Follow Cedar Glade Rd for about 0.6 miles, and you'll arrive at Pineland Dr. and the Waterworks Trailhead.
Riders are greeted with a mix of flow and single-track trails. The varying sections include the smooth and flowy Waterworks, the jump-laden Cat’s Meow, and the black diamond, which promises a more technically challenging experience. Also worth mentioning is the Lucky 13 section that offers some top-notch downhill runs.
The trail can be summarized as 'measured in smiles, not miles.' Whether you are an intermediate rider or have newbies tagging along, Northwoods has got you covered. It has a proportion of 20% black, 40% blue, and 40% green trails.
Expect to come across three small lakes and dams that result in picturesque waterfalls, further enhancing your riding experience.
For those who crave more mileage, the trail conveniently connects to Cedar Glades Park, adding another 10 miles of trails to your journey.
Though the feedback has largely been positive, some have expressed the need for more technically difficult sections. The community eagerly anticipates the addition of these in the coming years.
Northwoods Waterworks Trail stands out as an exceptional addition to Arkansas's cycling landscape. Its carefully designed terrains, versatile sections, and connectivity to other trails make it a must-ride for any cyclist. Happy Riding!
