The New River Linear is a nice and easy unpaved biking trail ideal for a relaxed biking adventure. We highly recommend it for anyone who wants a ride that doesn’t require much attention. It is flat, with grass and dirt surfaces that you can easily breeze through. You can even bring your kids or inexperienced biking friends to enjoy a ride together. Best of all, the trail passes through some of the most excitingly scenic and historic areas in South Carolina.
The New River Linear is an out-and-back trail that isn’t as popular as other mountain biking trails in Bluffton, South Carolina. The trail runs for 4 miles in Bluffton city, starting from Sun City development in the north and ending at New river’s banks. It runs alongside power lines on the abandoned Seaboard airline railway corridor.
You can begin your ride from the driveway off of S.C. Route 46. From the parking lot, follow the short mulch path to join the trail. You will come by an old railroad underpass at the trail’s midpoint. When you get closer to the river, you will see it bisect the Heritage at New Riverside development. It is a great resource to the community in the area.
Although the trail is flat, we recommend using wider tires because it is unpaved. You will appreciate the signs and markers that describe the trail’s features and the area’s history.
The New River Linear Trail is relatively short but passes through beautiful scenery. Its north part is surrounded by a hardwood forest and swampland that provide unmatched tranquility. The forest is also home to different wildlife including Turkeys, deer, alligators, armadillos, and waterfowl. Before the trails end at the New River, you will see a grid of channels from abandoned rice fields.
