Detailed Trail Description

The Lenape mountain biking trail system is a flowy singletrack with a few challenges. The technical challenges are in the trial for good measure. It has no crazy climbs or descents, but the few technical features, like the rock retaining wall near the trail’s northern end, can intimidate a beginner rider.

You can access the trail from the parking lot at the hilltop. Turn left into the trailhead, then left again onto the singletrack at the junction with the boulder. You can also access it through the multiuse loop but take a right turn at the junction with the boulder.

The trial’s intermediate section is HMBA’S pioneer project. After riding the flowy contour trail and the intermediate section, you can stop for a rest at any of the picnic areas. The trail continues along a levee and intersects with a multi-use trail. Ride on your right on the levee to remain on the main trail.

Additional Trail Features

  •       Picnic tables for rest stops.
  •       Rock retaining wall.

Sights of Interest, landscapes, views

You may spot beautiful wildflowers if you ride the Lenape biking trail in spring. The trees are also home to various bird species and animals like squirrels and coyotes. Even if you don’t see any animals, you will appreciate the tranquil nature of the trail and feel amazingly drawn into nature, a welcome break from the noise and crowds in the city.

Recommendations/precautions

  •       Be mindful of other trail users.
  •       Don’t go riding in wet weather.
  •       Avoid the trail's northern end, which is held with a rock retaining wall if you are not an advanced biker.
  •       Carry plenty of water.
  •       Although some sections of the trail are shaded, carry sunscreen if you go riding on a hot sunny day.
