Leaders Park is a popular trail among mountain bikers. Besides mountain bikers, you will encounter hikers and runners. Dogs are not allowed, so you will have fewer obstacles to watch out for on the trail. The 4-loop trail has enough challenges for beginners, intermediate, and professional mountain bikers. We found it impressive that a local mountain bike group called Falls Area Singletracks keeps the trails in good shape. Here is a quick rundown of the trail’s features.
The Leaders Park Bike Trails is a 4-mile dirt trail in the City of Sioux Falls. The trail has four loops linked together with a common origin. The loops suit different bike riding skills, including beginners, intermediate, and experts. They run clockwise and have similar switchbacks for climbing back to the start point.
Instead of starting your ride and hoping to link the loops ahead, we recommend looking at the trail's map first, as you may get confused. The first two sections of the trail have a few swoops and stunts and a fairly steep downhill run. Other parts of the trail have switchbacks that you can ride over easily and a few steep spots. In essence, you must be ready to switch from the highest gear to the lowest multiple times.
The park has signposts all over to warn you against riding in wet conditions. You will enjoy riding on the heavily shaded trail, especially in sunny weather, and if you are lucky, you may see wildlife.
Besides slopes and inclines, the Leaders Park Bike Trail has a lot of prairie grass and a forest that are home to different wildlife. You may also spot a few bird species if you have a keen eye.
