Set against the iconic backdrop of Moab, Utah, the Klonzo trail system introduces an exhilarating network of singletrack trails. Sprawling across 20 miles, these trails are a testament to contemporary trail-building expertise.
Embark on an adventure north of Moab on Rt 191 for approximately 13 miles. The right turn onto Willow Springs Rd. signals the approach. Although some patches might test vehicle suspensions, a careful 2.7-mile drive culminates at the trailhead on the road's left side.
The northeastern ascent of Klonzo’s trails is predominantly intermediate in both aerobic and technical dimensions. A gradual climb via the Borderline trail opens up to the exhilarating Wahoo loop, where counter-clockwise travel amplifies the experience. Secret Passage then steers riders back to the Dunestone loop, predominantly featuring slabrock. Adjacent to it lies the Boondocks loop. With the system's design, riders have the liberty to craft their rides, piecing together the trails in a myriad of combinations. An unnamed loop also beckons south of the trailhead.
Klonzo trails, although not the most technical in Moab, stand out with their flow and some challenging climbs. They offer delightful sections of downhill rolls, coupled with small rock drops. For many, the trails are a refreshing divergence from the famed Slickrock trail, offering better flow and a tad lesser difficulty. Many riders have accentuated the fun factor, praising the system's adaptability for various skill levels. Although some trails have received modest feedback as "pleasantly easy" or "average singletrack", other trails, especially the newer additions, have garnered acclaim for their improved technicality and engaging design.A word of advice for the uninitiated: investing in a local map from a Local Bike Shop (LBS) will not only aid navigation but also supports the commendable efforts of the Moab Trails Alliance. Their trail-building endeavors over recent years have enriched the area, making it a go-to destination for many biking aficionados.
Klonzo's trail system, although nestled amid many other esteemed trails in Moab, holds its own with its distinctive features and intermediate-friendly design. For riders keen on slick rock experiences without the daunting challenges of expert tracks, Klonzo beckons. The trail ensures an immersive experience, punctuated with fun and frolic at every turn.
