Casa Viejo Loop is one of the best technical mountain biking trails in Los Angeles for advanced bikers. Keep reading to discover its features.
The Casa Viejo Loop is a difficult trail in the heart of the Crestwood Hills neighborhood. It opens at 6 am and closes at 8 pm daily. The trail has a diverse terrain, including easy-flowing sections and fun whoop-de-doo jumps. Although some sections are too technical for beginner bikers, the stunning views of the surrounding area make the adventure worth trying. The loop trail is only 3.66 miles, but it has so much to offer in terms of fun.
We recommend looping from N Kenter Ave all the way to the Whoops trail, then to Casa Viejo trail. Begin your ride from Crestwood Hills at the N Kenter Ave and Honeywood Rd junction. It is the best starting point as is has plenty of parking space. N Kenter Ave is pretty steep. Climb it, past the mid-century homes, up to the Kenter Fire Road gate. Enter and ride the short climb before turning right onto the Lower Canyon Black trail.
The Lower Canyon Black Trail is a dirt trail. Ride it entirely until you get back on the Kenter Fire road. Keep riding on Kenter Fire Road up to where it intersects the Whoops trail. You should see a cable fence at the intersection. The trail flattens and flows easily as you approach the fifth power line tower. You can stop and enjoy the magnificent views of the Santa Monica Mountains and homes in the Mandeville Canyon.
The Whoops trail is a fun singletrack with various jumpy sections that will spit you back on Kenter Fire Road. Turn right and continue riding downhill on the fire road. Turn right again when you notice the fire road has started to slope uphill. The right turn will lead you to a dirt trail, the Casa Viejo trail. The singletrack trail winds through chainlink gates and intersects with a few homes. When you reach the wooden steps, climb down to join Teakwood Rd. Keep riding and take the first left to join Honeywood Rd, leading you back to your starting point; N Kenter Ave.
The Casa Viejo Loop offers great views of the Santa Monica Mountains and the west side of Los Angeles. When ascending the Whoops trail, you will see the mountains on your left and a stunning view of the homes in Mandeville Canyon below. You will also get a beautiful view of Brentwood estates on the Casa Viejo trail.
