Tucked away in the picturesque setting of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Blodgett Open Space offers an intriguing blend of experiences for mountain bikers. Despite being a point-to-point route with a moderate distance of just 3 miles, this trail packs a punch. If a smooth ascent and a rock-strewn downhill coupled with some hike-a-bike elements intrigue you, then this trail demands a visit.
The trail unfurls as a fire road, gradually elevating until a water tower signals a two-mile mark. The ascent, although not technical, serves as a warm-up before you make a choice—turn back for an up-and-back to the tower, or continue on a path laden with adventures.
The trail eventually merges with Air Force Academy property. At the first major trail intersection, opt for a right to explore further. This section again features a downhill and then an ascent, leading you back into a subdivision and ultimately to your starting point. A number of connecting trails make it possible to extend your ride if the 3 miles leave you craving more.
Blodgett Open Space offers a contrasting experience. While it might not be the best in Colorado Springs, it offers enough to keep an intermediate rider engaged. The trail challenges not just your biking skills but also your endurance and arm strength. A visit here becomes about much more than just the bike.
