Access to the Dothan Forever Wild Trails is fairly straightforward. For the North Parking lot, take Highway 85 west from Dothan, turn south on Brannon Stand Rd., and proceed 1.8 miles to Flowers Chapel Rd. A left turn and another mile will lead you to Narcisse Dr., where you should turn right and follow to the parking area. East and West trailhead parking options are further down on Fortner St, well-indicated by brown trailhead signs.
A collaborative vision between the city of Dothan and the Alabama Forever Wild Land Trust has resulted in this sprawling 10-mile trail system. The trails officially opened on October 1, 2016, and they are operational from 6:30 am until dark, barring any maintenance.
High praise has been consistently bestowed upon the Dothan Forever Wild Trails. Cyclists rave about the excellent flow, the range of trails available, and the ample amenities that accompany each rest stop. However, thrill-seekers looking for challenging terrain may find the trails a bit flat for their taste. The Dragon Tail section received specific commendation for its engaging ride within a pine tree grove. Signage was the only noted issue, but the loop system's design minimizes the risk of getting lost.
The Dothan Forever Wild Trails shine as a model for community-driven trail systems. Perfect for beginners to intermediate riders, these trails are a testament to what can be achieved with collaboration, good design, and ongoing maintenance. Whether it’s for the rich natural vistas or the well-crafted trails, a visit here will make any rider see why the locals are so proud of this facility.
