Situated just 15 miles west of Las Vegas, Nevada, the Badger Loop is an 8-mile mountain biking trail that is part of the larger Blue Diamond system. Offering an array of singletrack terrains, a steady uphill climb, and exhilarating downhills, the trail is an ideal escape for riders of all skill levels.
As soon as cyclists enter the trail, a gradual climb greets them, which continues for the first 3 miles. The journey up provides:
After crossing under Highway 160 via a tunnel, riders follow the singletrack up an easy grade. The key to conquering this trail is to stay left at the first two intersections and continue the ascent until reaching Badger Pass. A right turn here leads to a short, steep grade and a ridge-top journey that gives way to a technical 1-mile downhill. Although the path may sound complex, it’s easy to follow, especially if one gets a local map.
Owing to its desert location, extreme heat is a concern.
Riders praise the trail's "fun flowy sections" and its accessibility to both cautious and adventurous riders. The downhill sections in particular receive accolades for being "a blast." If you’re visiting Las Vegas and looking for a detour, this trail comes highly recommended, particularly the segments that connect with Highway 159 and offer "fast trails back." Those new to mountain biking find it a very welcoming trail, with clearly marked paths and manageable obstacles.
Getting There: Positioned 4.6 miles west of the junction with Highway 159, a new paved parking lot is under construction as of March 2008. Cyclists can park and enter the trail by going under the highway via an aqueduct tunnel.Whether you're a local or a visitor to the Las Vegas area, Badger Loop offers an enticing blend of steady climbs and thrilling descents, making it a must-ride trail for mountain biking enthusiasts.
